Glenmorangie 10 Year Old, 100 Proof

Highland Single Malt Whisky

In the old days whisky was sold at full strength - around 100 proof spirit (57.2% alcohol) - and water added to taste.

This was only changed in 1916, by an unpopular government body called Central Control Board. Now again it is permissible to bottle at full strength, and therfore possible to savour this Glenmorangie as it was enjoyed by our forbears.

Glenmorangie Distillery

Glenmorangie is a distillery in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland owned by The Glenmorangie Company Ltd.

Their main product is the range of Glenmorangie single malt whisky, however the malt whisky is also used in two of the company's other products, Bailie Nicol Jarvie and Highland Queen brands of blended scotch whisky.

The Glenmorangie single malt also forms part of several independent vatted malt whisky bottlings, and as such, it is often mixed with a small amount of whisky from the Glen Moray distillery.

Glenmorangie is categorised as a highland distillery and boasts the tallest stills in Scotland.

Highland Single Malt Whisky

Highland is the biggest Whisky region in Scotland and has the widest ranges in styles.

Highland whisky can often be powerful and have a rich flavour sometimes smoky although slightly less so than whisky from the Islands.

The word 'glen' is commonly used in the name of both Highland and Speyside distilleries and means 'valley'.
