Macallan 55 Year Old Lalique - The Foxley Docket

Check out this lovely article on the Macallan 55 year old Lalique in the inaugural edition of the Foxley Docket! We’re very proud to stock such a rare gem here at Abbey Whisky. Macallan Lalique 55 Year Old In reference to the Auld Alliance of the 13th century, it was WWII general and Free French Forces leader Charles de Gaulle who once described the alliance between Scotland and France as “the oldest alliance in the world.” Indeed, over the centuries, as the nations expanded, they each bred a vast plethora of refined crafts for which they are still universally celebrated – the French bore masters of fine crystal and the Scottish name exemplified the very highest calibre of whisky. It seems that the amalgamation of these two nation’s traits would make a truly prestigious alliance, and with this in mind, the rare Macallan Lalique 55 Year Old single malt whisky is a fitting tribute to their legendary partnership. The whisky itself is a cask strength single malt which has remained undisturbed for over half a century at the Macallan Distillery base of Easter Elchies House on the banks of the River Spey. There it matured through the decades in a Spanish oak sherry cask to produce a dark rosewood liquid with aromatic notes of sweet dried fruits and a hint of peat smoke. The finish is soft and smooth with a touch of spice and a lingering citrus zing. Not wanting to be outdone, the French influence comes in the form of the sublime decanter that has been purposely designed by crystal masters Lalique. The piece draws its inspiration from the natural colours of the whisky and also a classic perfume bottle design by legendary art nouveau glass virtuoso René Lalique himself. If the combination of these two art forms did not make the set rare enough, the Macallan 55 Years Old in Lalique decanter is a limited edition with only 420 ever released. With such a finely sculptured vessel and an unequalled standard of malt whiskey, this sublimely rare symbol of creative fortitude is as precious as the virtues that these two proud nations have spent centuries forming.
