Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky Abbey Whisky

The third release in our series of special 10th Anniversary drams shall remain ‘Anonymous’. What we can reveal, is that this stunner of a dram, released under our Rare Casks Anon. banner is a peated malt, distilled in 1999 at a famous distillery on the Isle of Orkney and matured for 17 years in a refill sherry butt. Bottled a day before it’s 18th birthday, it's certainly come of age, the perfect marriage of peat and sherry!

Nose – Gentle, refined and ‘coastal’. I got notes of honeycomb, soft spice and a light, sweet heathery-smoke (almost floral, in a way). Flinty minerals, crushed quartz rock, red apples skins, grilled stone fruit and oily rope.

Palate – A lovely oily texture. Naturally sweet up front, with notes of honey, lavender and toffee. The peat is much more present here, smouldering hay, floral tobacco and leather finishing quite earthy.

A really complex and hugely rewarding dram, the kind of stuff Highland Park 'should' be bottling. Regret not buying more!

really happy I bought this HP single cask, the flavour profile is epic, delightful, fabulous, can't get enough. Keep up the good work on choosing great casks.

NOSE: model airplane glue (like an old Pappy 20); cotton candy at the fair; salty sea air; freshly cut vetch; mild peat; modeling putty; almost a Speyside-y flat caramel note; rice pudding; cumin. PALATE: ashy peat; caramel apple; vanilla bean; yogurt-covered cashew; hot red clay. FINISH: fairly long with a mercurial shifting between sweet and salty; concentrates on the tip of the tongue. Extremely nice dram for the cost, especially at nearly 18 years old. Palate is better than the nose. Now that some time has gone by, I'm reminded of an older bruichladdich of comparable age (on the nose). I bought two of these bottles with no regrets whatsoever . . . aside from not buying three.

This has got to be a Highland Park??? The blend of peat with the sherry is perfect, perfect strength. Great value, what a dram.
