Blue Hanger is one of the most storied names in Berry Bros. & Rudd's remarkable history. Named in honour of William "Blue" Hanger, this, the 14th edition marks the series' return after a ten year hiatus and it arrives with considerable gravitas. Curated by Felix Dear, Berry Bros. & Rudd's Spirits Curator, this release brings together seven hand selected casks: six ex-bourbon hogsheads and a single ex-sherry butt, producing a whisky of remarkable harmony and depth. The youngest component is 26 years old, with casks extending to 34 years. Bottled at 45.6% ABV, non chill-filtered and at natural colour, nothing has been done to diminish what time and oak have so carefully built.
Tasting Notes
Awards
Nose
Milk chocolate and soft caramel ease into citrus peel and stewed fruits, the sherry cask influence adding quiet depth.
Palate
Has an unctuous oiliness, carrying barley sweets and orchard fruit, with caramel wrapping around it all.
Finish
A dusting of baking spice adds lift, leading to a finish which gently trails into mellow chocolate and sweet fruits notes.
