Compass The Spice Tree is a carefully constructed blended malt Scotch whisky made exclusively from Highland single malts, drawn primarily from the village of Brora. The whisky undergoes an initial maturation in a combination of first fill and refill American oak casks, creating a solid, spirit-led foundation. Secondary maturation takes place in custom made, new headed casks fitted with heavily toasted new French oak, sourced from 195 year old Vosges forests.
The original release of The Spice Tree used an experimental cask construction method (matured in barrels made with French oak stave inserts) which was later discontinued following intervention from the SWA. The redesigned, compliant version (like this one) later formed part of the Compass Box core range, but has since also been discontinued.
