Back in 2001, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE and former distillery manager Ian Millar conduced some trials, distilling batches of Balvenie spirit using heavily peated malt. For once a year since, Balvenie distillery has dedicated one week each year, named Peat Week to carry on this experiment. Distilled using 100% Highland peat this 14 year old release is a single vintage bottling from 2002, matured in American oak casks before being bottled at 48.3% vol.
