Caol Ila released a single cask Sherry butt for the 2012 Islay Whisky Festival (Feis Ile 2012). 300897 was filled in 2001 and bottled at cask strength 60.4% vol.
Abbey Whisky Tasting Note:
Nose: Wonderful sea air mixed with warm butter and a slight lingering of dark chocolate orange. Left for a while it opens up well, freshly cut kindling wood, shoe polish brushed onto leather.
Palate: Wow, powerful really fills your mouth with warm spice, pepper and sea air. Touch of water softens the taste and brings out the peat.
Finish: Wow what a powerful dram, really fills your mouth with warm spice, pepper and sea air. Touch of water softens the taste and brings out the peat. A cracking dram.
