In the old days whisky was sold at full strength - around 100 proof spirit (57.2% alcohol) - and water added to taste. This was only changed in 1916, by an unpopular government body called Central Control Board. Now again it is permissible to bottle at full strength, and therefore possible to savour this Glenmorangie as it was enjoyed by our forbears.
