This is the latest batch of 'The North Highland Blended Malt' from Thompson Bros. A carefully crafted marriage of characterful Highland malts, aged for over 8 years, the recipe brings together Clynelish and Glen Ord, with a touch of heavily peated Dalmore (3%) adding depth and intrigue. The whisky has been rested for several months and gently reduced in strength mainly in cask from 56.8% down to a finely balanced 44.9% vol. The result is a vibrant and approachable dram that captures the rugged charm of the North Highlands. As always with Thompson Bros, the presentation is as eye catching as the whisky itself, featuring another striking label artwork by KMG.
Tasting Notes
Awards
Nose
Peaches and cream and some coastal wet rocks. Some kiwi and white pepper. “Halfway between petrol and marzipan” says Josh(??). Certainly some Riesling coming through. Putty.
Palate
Very gentle texture on the palate, menacingly soft. A real thirst-quencher. Mandarin-esque citrusy note with soft jelly baby pillows of icing sugar and gelatine. Lots of minerality coming through.
Finish
Honeydew melon, waxy peaches, candle wax and slate.
