Glenmorangie ‘Sale of the Company’ – A Rare Tribute to Legacy and Leadership

Glenmorangie ‘Sale of the Company’ – A Rare Tribute to Legacy and Leadership

The Sale of Glenmorangie PLC

In the long and storied history of Scotch whisky, few moments are as pivotal as the sale of Glenmorangie in 2004. Known for its elegant, Highland style and meticulous production methods, Glenmorangie had remained proudly independent since its founding in 1843. That independence came to an end when the company was acquired by Moët Hennessy, the luxury goods division of LVMH. It was a landmark shift for the distillery and a turning point in the broader landscape of single malt Scotch whisky.

A rare 1987 vintage commemorating Glenmorangie’s sale to Moët Hennessy

To mark this moment, Glenmorangie released a highly limited single cask expression known as the ‘Sale of the Company’. Distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2004 at a natural cask strength of 56.4% ABV, this bottling offers both historical significance and remarkable quality. Just 346 bottles were produced, making it one of the rarest official releases in Glenmorangie’s modern portfolio.

Presented to Distillery Manager Graham Eunson

What sets this particular bottle apart, however, is its direct connection to Graham Eunson, who was Distillery Manager at the time. A native of Orkney, Eunson is a respected figure within the distillery and part of the renowned ‘Sixteen Men of Tain’ - the skilled craftsmen traditionally responsible for Glenmorangie’s distillation. His leadership during the transition period was instrumental in preserving the distillery’s standards and ethos amidst significant corporate change.

In recognition of his contribution, this specific bottle of 'Sale of the Company' was presented to Eunson personally. His name appears on the back label, making it not only a collector’s item but a deeply personal tribute to someone who helped steer Glenmorangie through one of its most transformative periods.

More than a collectable, this is a personal piece of distillery history

Today, bottles from this release rarely surface and one bearing the name of such a key figure in the distillery’s history is especially unique. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, it serves as a symbol of tradition, change and the individuals who leave a lasting imprint on Scotch whisky
