The Countdown Begins: Aberargie Distillery to Release Its First Single Malt in March 2026
Aberargie’s First Single Malt Is on the Horizon
Aberargie Distillery, owned by the Morrison family, has confirmed that its first ever single malt Scotch whisky will be unveiled in March 2026, a landmark moment that marks the family’s full return to single malt production.
The Morrison name is steeped in Scotch history. For generations, the family has been involved in whisky making and maturation, once owning famous names including Bowmore, Auchentoshan, and Glen Garioch. When those distilleries were sold in the 1990s, few would have imagined that three decades later the Morrisons would be quietly crafting a new legacy on their own land. Aberargie is the result of that vision, an independent, family run distillery built with patience, purpose, and an unwavering respect for tradition.
Barley to Bottle in Perthshire
Unlike most distilleries, Aberargie controls every step of production on its own 300 acre estate, just south of Perth. The barley, including the revered Golden Promise variety is grown on site, malted, distilled, matured, and bottled all within the same landscape. That complete chain of provenance gives Aberargie an enviable “barley-to-bottle” authenticity that few can match.
The distillery recently completed what it described as its “final barley harvest” before the launch, a symbolic moment, closing a chapter of preparation and signalling the arrival of its first mature spirit. For whisky fans, this means that every drop in the bottle next March will have its roots firmly in the soil of the Morrison family farm.
Patience, Provenance and a Return to Craft
Production at Aberargie began in 2017, with the goal of creating a robust, full bodied Lowland single malt capable of long ageing. Using traditional copper pot stills and local water sources, the distillery set out to make whisky that celebrates the richness of Scottish barley rather than relying on heavy peat or finishing techniques. The result, though still under wraps until release, is expected to express Aberargie’s fruit-forward spirit style, with layers of orchard fruit, vanilla, cereal sweetness and a malty depth that reflects both the barley and the wood.
Distillery manager David Henderson and the Morrison team have spoken of a whisky that captures “place, patience, and pride”, a distillate made slowly, matured carefully, and bottled only when it’s ready.
A New Chapter for an Old Whisky Family
The return of the Morrison family to Scotch production has been one of the most exciting behind the scenes stories of the past decade. Their independent bottling arm, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, has already earned acclaim for labels such as Carn Mòr and Mac-Talla. But Aberargie is something different: a distillery designed from the ground up to carry their name into the next generation. By growing their own barley and managing every stage of maturation and bottling, the Morrisons are reaffirming values that go back to whisky’s agricultural roots. This isn’t about scale, it’s about integrity, terroir and family craft.
What We Can Expect in 2026
The inaugural Aberargie Single Malt will be unveiled in March 2026, with release details still to come. Given the family’s track record, we anticipate a whisky of depth and balance, one that combines classic Lowland elegance with a farm to glass authenticity.
We’ll be following this story closely and will share more as the launch approaches. It’s rare to see a new distillery so deeply connected to both Scotland’s whisky past and its sustainable future. Aberargie looks set to be one of 2026’s most talked about releases.
